SKILLED IMMIGRANTS: THE STIMULUS WE NEED?

Are skilled and entrepreneurial immigrants the economic stimulus that America needs? Could lowered barriers help regions like the country’s Rustbelt prosper again?

That’s the audacious case that Cleveland immigration attorney Richard T. Herman and his journalist co-author, Robert L. Smith, make in their new book– “Immigrant Inc.”

The mere thought that immigrants are an American asset, not a liability, puts a whole new face on the Lou Dobbs-style attacks on America’s 12 million undocumented immigrants that CNN so long tolerated, and right-wing media still promote.

NO... HEALTH CARE REFORM THIS YEAR ?

La Sen Stabenow D-Michigan dijo “This is absolutely not going to be passed unless it’s revenue neutral,” en una entrevista con The Daily Telegram’s editorial board.

TO THE LATINA AND LATINO COMMUNITY

By Richard Sambrano
Private Citizen

The first Latina ever nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court is lambasted by Texas Senator Cornyn as having "radical views" and “demonstrated the kind of liberal judicial activism that has steered the court in the wrong direction over the last few years.”
John Cornyn, an ultraconservative former Texas Supreme Court Judge, now Republican U.S. Senator from Texas , attacked the judicial credibility of U.S. Supreme Court nominee and current Second District Federal Appellate Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor. His "No Vote" and philosophical diatribe against the Honorable Appellate Court Judge Sotomayor are contrary to the judicial wisdom and declarations represented in Judge Sotomayor's eighteen year history and record as a sitting judge.
She is the first sitting judge, Latino or Latina , since the signing of the U.S. Constitution two hundred twelve years ago, that has ever been nominated to be a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. If approved as anticipated, her appointment will instantly send a message to the world that the Latino community is moving steadily forward in becoming a strong stitch in the social and judicial fabric of our country. Judge Sotomayor is eminently qualified to serve in this historical capacity. Her personal background is now known by all Americans and the international community will soon become aware of her presence.
It is both politically and socially tragic to witness history in the making by the nefarious political actions taken to date and "NO" vote to be cast by Senator John Cornyn against the first Latina to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. His weak attempt to placate Latinos stating "I will vote with the certain knowledge that she will be confirmed despite my vote. I wish her well. I congratulate her on her historic achievement. I know she will be an inspiration to young people – within the Hispanic community and beyond.” He goes on saying “She is an experienced judge with an excellent academic background.” Needless to say, his political double-talk is disgusting and insults the intelligence of our community.
Let the record show that Senator Cornyn from Texas, the state with the "second largest Hispanic population in the nation" with over "3.6 million eligible voters" has taken it upon himself to vote against one of the most qualified jurist in the country, a Latina, to serve on the highest court in the nation. We call on all current and future Latina and Latino voters to remember the historical "NO" vote cast by Senator Cornyn against Judge Sonia Sotomayor. He will be on the election ballot in 2014.
Ecourage all Latinas and Latinos to express their views on the historic and imminent Senate approval and swearing in of soon to be U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor
